  For many, this is the half-way point in the long drive to south Florida. And, for many, this is a favorite 'watering hole'. For, here, is the famous South of the Border amusement park. You first catch sight of the giant, Mexican-style sombrero sticking up high in the sky. This is Sombrero Tower and, like Seattle's Space Needle, you can take an elevator up and walk around the brim of the sombrero.
  To enter the park you'll drive between the legs of Pedro, the 97-foot tall, sombrero-topped, mustachioed caricature that is a trademark of South of the Border. park icon of a Mexican. This has been (and may still be), the tallest, free-standing, sign in the eastern United States.
  Scattered about the Park are a half-dozen restaurants serving items ranging from tacos to full-sized steak dinners. There's even a restaurant atop Sombrero Tower.
  If you like to do a little souvenir collecting, there ar about a dozen shops selling a broad range of items including, of course, Mexican-style items. There's even a shop specializing in 'T' shirts. And, yes, you are SOUTH of the border of North Carolina. What has been claimed to be the largest fireworks shop in the country, Fort Pedro, is here to liven up your holiday (safely, of course).
  And to add the final stamp which parks South of the Border as an amusement park, Pedro's Park offers a wild variety of amusement rides and arcades.
  The Interstate exit may be in North Carolina but you are now in South Carolina.
