Visitors' Center - From I-95 take exit 73. If northbound, turn left; if southbound turn right. Follow US-421 (Cumberland Street) into town to Fayetteville Street (3rd street after you cross the tracks). Turn left, go 1 block and turn right on Divine Street. The Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce is at 209 West Divine Street.
  From I-40 eastbound get on I-95 at exit 328 (southbound) and follow the directions for I-95 southbound, above.
  From I-40 westbound take exit 341, turn left and follow NC-55 to Dunn. At I-95 you are joined by US-421. Continue on this road (becomes Cumberland Street and into town to Fayetteville Street (3rd street after you cross the tracks). Turn left, go 1 block and turn right on Divine Street. The Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce is at 209 West Divine Street.

Averasboro Civil War Battlefield and Museum - This is the site of the 'Battle of Averasboro' which took place on the Smith plantation in March of 1865. A hard fought, verry bloody engagement culminating in about 1,000 dead on both sides (about evenly split). The Smith's plantation house served as the Confederate hospital. The dead were buried in the nearby Chicora Cemetery. Who won? Depends who is telling the story. They will tell you all about it here. The Averasboro battleground is included in the N.C. Civil War Trails.

  From I-95, take Exit 71. If northbound, turn left; if southbound turn right. Follow Longbranch Road to US-301 where it becomes Arrowhead Road. Continue on to Dorman Road (to your right about 300 yards after you cross the Black River) - all westbound - to the battleground on NC-82. Just follow the signs.
  From I-40 eastbound get on I-95 at exit 328 (southbound) and follow the directions for I-95, above.
  From I-40 westbound take exit 341, turn left and follow NC-55 to I-95. Get on I-95 southbound and follow the directions for I-95, above.

General William C. Lee Airborne Museum - Housed, with the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce, in the 3-story, early 20th century Neo-classical revival former home of Dunn native Major General William C. Lee. General Lee, the “Father of the U.S. Army Airborne”, earned that title as a result of his tenacious push for the method of military operation now known as Airborne. During World War II, President Roosevelt, accepting General Lee's philosophy, commissioned him to organize Army airborne units which were later used in the D-Day invasion of France. Exhibits include World War II memorabilia, photographs and historical documents and videos.
  Open Tuesday through Friday from 10a to 4p; Saturdays from 11a to 4p. Admission $1.

The Cornfield Maze - No, not something created by aliens from outer space, this cornfield maze with all its dun twists and turns was carved into this cornfield be real humans. They even have a miniature tricycle maze for the younger set. Also, supervised games for the kids, pumpkin toss and plenty of eats.

If you are headed to South Carolina’s Grand Strand (Myrtle Beach, etc.) we recommend you continue to Wilmington and then follow US-17 (Market Street in Wilmington) to the Grand Strand. If you are going to Charleston SC, exit I-40 here at exit 328 and head south on I-95. Follow I-95 to I-26 in South Carolina and then take I-26 east to Charleston.
