I-95 and FLORIDA |
||
|
Florida ranks
as the country's most famous - or most notorious - state depending
upon who and when. Thousands of residents of America's northeast make
their
annual pil-grimage to enjoy Florida's milder winters as the abundance of
hotels near I-95 indicate. But, then, Floridians
migrate to the more northern climates (especially the mountains of
Western North Carolina)
to escape the Florida hot and humid summers. Miami and Miami Beach, known as Florida's Gold Coast, seem to be the destinations of most travelers on Florida's section of I-95. The official beginning of this great Interstate highway is at US-1 just south of downtown Miami. I-95 heads north following US-1 and the Atlantic Coast all of 1927 miles to the Maine-New Brunswick, Canada international boundary. I-95 is the longest of the north-south Interstate highways in the U.S. |
Interstate 95
has replaced US-1 and US-17 as the main migration thoroughfares. It is
primarily level and offers many excellent restaurants and hotels near
the I-95 exits. There
are even many convenient interesting places to 'stop and smell the
roses',
—
the
most famous of which include Fort Lauder-dale, West Palm Beach, Cape
Canaveral (home of Kennedy Space Center), Daytona Beach (spring break
destination for thousands of college students and home of the famous
Daytona Race Track), St Augustine (and its centuries of history) and
Jacksonville (the largest — geographically— city ion Florida). These, of
course, are just a few. contributed by Rudi Tautz |
