I-95 in Delaware

Folks heading north on I-95 from Maryland and points south to northern New Jersey and points north should have taken exit 5-D in Delaware. This puts you on I-295 (a toll road) which, in New Jersey, becomes the New Jersey Turnpike (yes, a toll road). Eventually, in northern New Jersey, the New Jersey Turnpike is also signed I-95 although there is no connection to the I-95 that runs through Pennsylvania and into New Jersey for a few miles.
If you continue on I-95 through Pennsylvania into New Jersey you'll find that, after I-95 enters New Jersey from Pennsylvania, it loops around north of Trenton and becomes I-295. Then it turns back south and you drive all the way back to I-195 which does connect with the NJ Turnpike. A lot of extra miles!
To get to the New Jersey Turnpike from I-95 in the Philadelphia area we recommend taking I-95 exit 40 to New Rodgers Rd (SR-413). Turn right and drive to its end at US-13. Turn left and follow US-13 north to the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-276). You'll want to go east on the Turnpike which crosses into New Jersey ending at its intersection with the New Jersey Turnpike.

An alternative is to take I-95 exit 19 and follow the signs to I-76 eastbound. Then follow I-76 to I-295 (this is the portion south of Trenton) and continue on I-295 east to the New Jersey Turnpike.

Folks heading south on I-95 from northern New Jersey and points north to Delaware and points south should continue on the NJ Turnpike to its end and then continue on I-295 across the Delaware River into Delaware and I-95.
If you wish to bypass some of the toll roads, exit the NJ Turnpike at I-276. After you cross the Delaware River into Pennsylvania, this becomes the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The first exit in Pennsylvania (exit 358) will put you on US-13. Follow 13 south not quite 2 miles to the junction of SR-413. There has been a sign at the intersection showing this is access to I-95. Follow 413 (which is also named New Rodgers Rd) to the I-95 southbound on-ramp and you are on your way. After you leave New Jersey you should have no problems following I-95.
